Mahidul Islam Ankon Century Leads Abahani to 173-Run DPL Victory
The Dhaka Premier League (DPL) returned to action after the Eid break, and Abahani Limited made a strong statement in the eighth round with a commanding 173-run victory over Gulshan Cricket Club. The star of the match was Mahidul Islam Ankon, who produced a brilliant century to lead his side to a dominant win.
Playing at BKSP Ground No. 4, Abahani won the toss and elected to bat first. Their decision paid off as they posted an impressive total of 315 for 5 in their allotted 50 overs.
Mahidul Islam Ankon was the standout performer with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 102 runs from just 95 balls. Although no other batter reached a half-century, several players made valuable contributions. Sabbir Hossain remained unbeaten on 45 from 44 deliveries, while Mosaddek Hossain added 43 runs off 34 balls. Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 26 off only 8 deliveries.
For Gulshan Cricket Club, Mosabber Hossain and Zakaria Islam Shanto picked up two wickets each.
Gulshan Cricket Club Struggles in Chase
Chasing a challenging target of 316, Gulshan started positively. Openers Rahmat Ali and Alif Hasan Emon added 45 runs for the first wicket. However, both batters were dismissed with the score still on 45.
Alif Emon scored 14 runs from 12 balls, while Rahmat Ali made 30 off 25 deliveries. Their departures triggered a batting collapse as Gulshan’s middle order struggled to build any partnerships.
Towards the end, Abdur Rahim scored 20 runs from 21 balls, while Abir contributed 15 off 25 deliveries. But those efforts were not enough as Gulshan were bowled out for just 142 runs.
Abahani secured a convincing 173-run victory to strengthen their position in the league standings.
With the ball, Naimur Rohman led the attack for Abahani with three wickets. Rakibul Hasan and SM Meherob claimed two wickets each, while Iqbal Hasan Emon and Mosaddek Hossain chipped in with one wicket apiece.
