Left-arm seamer Amshi de Silva bowled a full delivery wide of the off stump, tempting the batsman. Lhuan-dre Pretorius tried to capitalize on the width and drive the ball firmly through the off side. He struck it cleanly, but he failed to keep the shot along the turf.

As the ball flew rapidly towards the mid-off region, it appeared destined to find the boundary or at least clear the inner circle. However, Du Plessis had other plans.
