Faced with these mounting pressures, BCB President Tamim Iqbal has taken a firm stance: he has no intention of organizing the BPL merely to keep the brand alive if the quality and integrity of the product cannot be guaranteed.

Tamim Iqbal has been consistent in his messaging regarding the tournament’s future. Following a crucial BCB board meeting held on July 29, he reiterated that the board is committed to pausing the tournament until it can be revamped to meet international standards. “I won’t organize the BPL just for the sake of having a tournament,” Tamim stated. “I don’t think we have enough time right now. If we hold the next BPL, we will do it properly, the way it should be done.”

This declaration marks a pivotal shift in the board’s philosophy, prioritizing professional excellence over the routine continuation of a flawed system. By refusing to compromise on the structure and governance of the league, the BCB is signaling a desire to rebuild the tournament from the ground up, ensuring that players, sponsors, and fans receive a product worthy of the international stage.

Parallel to his domestic responsibilities, Tamim Iqbal has taken on a significant role within the International Cricket Council (ICC). His appointment as the chairman of the committee responsible for overseeing franchise cricket worldwide marks a major milestone for both the individual and the nation. Discussing his recent experiences at ICC headquarters, Tamim noted the warmth of his reception during both the informal meeting on July 9 and the formal sessions on July 11 and 12.

“It’s a huge honour for me, and also for the country,” Tamim remarked regarding his new position. “On my very first day, I was appointed chairman of one of the ICC committees.”

Overseeing the Evolution of Franchise Cricket

In his new capacity, Tamim will play a central role in shaping the regulatory landscape of global franchise cricket. As more nations launch their own T20 and T10 leagues, the need for centralized oversight has become more pressing. Tamim explained that his committee is tasked with monitoring these leagues to ensure that they adhere to global regulations and maintain the highest levels of professional conduct.

“Many countries are launching new franchise leagues. Our committee will oversee whether those leagues are following the correct processes and whether anything inappropriate is happening,” he explained. Beyond simple compliance, the committee is expected to serve as a hub for discussing international cricket matters, influencing policy decisions that will affect the sport for years to come. This combination of local reform and global governance places Tamim Iqbal at the heart of the ongoing transition in modern cricket, highlighting a transition toward a more structured, transparent, and sustainable era for the sport.
