Kalra was instrumental in India’s campaign, most notably in the final against Australia, where his match-winning century cemented his status as a future prospect. Across five innings in the tournament, Kalra amassed 252 runs, maintaining a staggering average of 84.00.

Following the tournament, several players were fast-tracked into the IPL. The Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) acquired both Prithvi Shaw and Manjot Kalra. However, his most significant move to date is his entry into the business side of cricket.

In a major development ahead of the 2026 Lanka Premier League (LPL), Manjot Kalra, alongside entrepreneur Mayank Goel, has acquired the Jaffna Kings franchise. This move represents a homecoming of sorts for the sport, as Kalra transitions from player to stakeholder. Reflecting on the acquisition, Kalra stated, “Jaffna Kings is a franchise with a strong cricketing identity and a passionate fan base. For us, this is an opportunity to bring together our experience in cricket, youth engagement, sports content and community building to support the next phase of the team’s journey.”

Legacy of the Jaffna Kings

The acquisition is particularly noteworthy given the history of the Jaffna Kings. The team has been a dominant force in the LPL, having secured four out of the five titles contested in the league’s history. The franchise’s journey has seen several shifts in ownership: initially competing as the Jaffna Stallions in 2020 before facing termination due to financial complications, the team later operated under the Lyca Group for four successful seasons. Following the termination of the Lyca Group ahead of the 2025 season, the Sports Commune group led by Kalra and Goel has stepped in to take the helm.

As the LPL prepares for its return, scheduled from July 8 to August 8, 2026, the spotlight is firmly on the new management. With the player draft set for May 23, the cricketing world will be watching closely to see how Kalra’s experience as a former U19 champion influences the future strategy of the league’s most successful team.
