A Commanding Display at the BKSP

In a thrilling encounter at the BKSP Ground No. 3, the Dhaka Leopards showcased their dominance in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) with a stellar performance against the prestigious Mohammedan Sporting Club. The match, which ended in a convincing five-wicket victory for the Leopards, was defined by an exceptional batting display and a tactical approach to the chase.

Mohammedan’s Innings: A Struggle for Momentum

Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Dhaka Leopards’ decision proved fruitful immediately. Mohammedan Sporting Club endured a rocky start, losing key openers Anamul Haque Bijoy and Anisul Islam within the early powerplay. The top order struggled to find rhythm, with Najmul Hossain Shanto falling for a quick 13 off 14 balls, leaving the team under pressure early on.

Parvez Hossain Emon attempted to stabilize the ship with a 47-ball 22, but he was eventually dismissed by the sharp bowling of Shykat Ali. The innings found its backbone through the experience of captain Mushfiqur Rahim. Mushfiqur orchestrated a vital 60-run partnership with Taibur Rahman for the fifth wicket, which helped repair the early damage. Taibur played a disciplined role, scoring 23 before departing, while Mushfiqur continued to anchor the innings, eventually reaching a well-deserved half-century. The skipper concluded his knock with 68 runs off 80 balls.

Towards the tail end, Afif Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin provided the necessary late-order flourish. Afif contributed a steady 39 off 53 balls, while Saifuddin injected pace into the total with 33 runs off his bat, featuring 3 fours and a six. Mohammedan eventually reached a total of 225 for 8, a respectable score, but one that required a strong bowling effort to defend.

The Chase: Mominul and Zawad Take Center Stage

Chasing a target of 226, the Dhaka Leopards needed a fast start to keep the run rate in check. Shykat Ali provided a brief spark before being dismissed for 39, setting the tone for the aggression that was to follow. However, the real catalyst of the innings was Zawad Abrar.

Zawad Abrar unleashed a blistering assault on the Mohammedan bowling attack, racing to 66 off just 34 balls. His explosive batting shifted the momentum firmly in the Leopards’ favor, forcing the opposition to rethink their defensive strategies. Even when captain Mithun was dismissed through a run-out, the Leopards never looked intimidated.

Mominul Haque’s Masterclass

While wickets tumbled at the other end, Mominul Haque played the role of a composed anchor. Mominul Haque displayed immense technical proficiency, holding one end firmly and managing the required run rate with ease. His performance was a clinic in modern limited-overs batting, focusing on rotation and punishing the loose deliveries.

As the innings reached its critical phase, Mominul found an excellent partner in Debasish Sarkar. The duo stitched together an unbeaten 80-run partnership for the sixth wicket that effectively ended any hopes of a Mohammedan comeback. Mominul remained unbeaten on 93 off 77 balls, falling just short of a century but having successfully navigated his side to victory. Debasish Sarkar provided stellar support, remaining not out on 38 off 51 balls, a cameo that included 3 fours and a six.

The victory serves as a strong statement for the Dhaka Leopards in the ongoing DPL season, proving their depth in both batting resilience and aggressive intent. For Mohammedan, it is a game of missed opportunities, particularly regarding the inability to break the final partnership between Mominul and Sarkar.
