Robin’s 147 powers Agrani Bank to victory, Gazipur win thriller by 1 wicket

After losing the toss and batting first, City Club posted a formidable total of 326 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs. Leading the charge for City Club was Abdullah Al Mamun, who played an exceptional, majestic innings of 151 runs off just 145 deliveries. Mamun’s knock was characterized by elegant strokeplay and smart placement, anchoring the innings perfectly. He found valuable support in veteran batsman Mizanur Rahman, who scored a steady 58 off 63 balls, and Anamul Haque Anam, who provided late-innings acceleration with a brisk 44 off 33 balls.

Agrani Bank’s bowlers found themselves under extreme pressure throughout the innings. However, Robiul Haque and Sandip Roy managed to show some resistance, picking up two wickets apiece to prevent City Club from scaling an even higher total on a batting-friendly track.

The Great Chase: Robin and Shadman Lead the Reply

Chasing a massive target of 327, Agrani Bank needed a fiery and solid start, and their opening pair delivered exactly that. Mahfijul Islam Robin and Shadman Islam took the attack to the opposition bowlers right from the first over. The star of the show, however, was Mahfijul Islam Robin. Robin anchored the chase beautifully, combining caution with aggression. He compiled a masterclass of 147 runs off 141 deliveries, a truly match-winning effort that kept Agrani Bank in the hunt even when the asking rate climbed. Although Nasir Hossain and Shuvagata Hom made brief but useful cameos, the chase got incredibly tight towards the end. Thanks to the composure of Amite Hasan and Jahid Javed in the final overs, Agrani Bank successfully overhauled the target with just two balls remaining, sealing a magnificent 5-wicket victory. For City Club, Enamul Hoque Ashiq was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, but it was not enough to stop the Agrani Bank juggernaut.

The Low-Scoring Thriller at Bashundhara: Gazipur Group vs Dhaka Leopards

While BKSP was a batsman’s paradise, the Bashundhara Sports Complex hosted a classic low-scoring thriller in Round 8 of the DPL. In a match where bowlers ruled the roost, Gazipur Group Cricketers registered a nail-biting 1-wicket victory over Dhaka Leopards, proving that low-scoring matches can often be far more dramatic than high-scoring ones.

Batting first, Dhaka Leopards struggled to find any momentum against a disciplined Gazipur bowling attack. They were eventually bundled out for a modest 153 runs. Only Shykat Ali offered sustained resistance, playing a fighting knock of 67 off 91 balls. He was supported by Zakir Hasan, who scored 45 off 56 balls. The rest of the Leopards’ batting lineup crumbled under pressure.

The chief destroyer for Gazipur Group was Md Rubel, who produced an absolutely sensational spell of fast bowling. Rubel ripped through the Leopards’ batting order, claiming extraordinary figures of 6 wickets for just 23 runs. Azijul Hakim Rony provided excellent support from the other end, picking up 2 wickets to restrict the Leopards to a highly chaseable total.

A Tense Chase and a Dramatic Finish

What should have been a straightforward chase for Gazipur Group turned into a nerve-shredding battle of attrition. Shovon Moroll led the reply with a solid 63 off 56 balls, while Emon Ali added a quickfire 31 off 26 balls to put Gazipur in a seemingly comfortable position. However, the Dhaka Leopards’ bowlers had other plans.

Moin Khan bowled an exceptional spell, picking up 5 wickets for 34 runs to trigger a massive middle and lower-order collapse. Hasan Murad kept the pressure mounting by taking 3 wickets. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and suddenly, Gazipur found themselves on the brink of defeat. It was Leon Islam who ultimately became the hero of the hour for Gazipur. Showing immense composure, Leon stayed unbeaten on 14 runs off 27 balls, batting with the tail to guide his team across the line. Gazipur Group reached the target of 154 with just 1 wicket in hand, securing one of the most exciting victories of the DPL season.
